Thiel Falls at Marietta Tourny, 56-73

Marietta, Ohio (November 28, 2009) -- Despite having four players reach double figures in scoring, the women of Thiel College basketball dropped their third game of the season, 56-73, at the Marietta Turkey Shootout to the College of Mount Saint Joseph Gaels on Saturday.

Both teams began the game at a blistering pace with the Gaels filling up the basket at a 54.8 (17-31) percent clip while the Tomcats remained in striking distance shooting 45.2  percent (14-31) the floor in the first half.

The 'Cats couldn't maintain the pace however, as the Gaels continued their hot hand, shooting over 47 percent from the field, while holding Thiel to below 35 percent.

Tomcat freshman, Kelly Barzack (Warren, Ohio/Howland), led the 'Cats with a team-high 12 points and four rebounds, while Rianne Thornton (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) finished 11 points, five assists, two steals, and two blocked shots.  Ashley Davis (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peter Chanel) (Cleveland, Ohio/St. Peters Chanel) and Jasmin Jones (Pittsburgh, Pa./Wilkinsburg) (Pittsburgh, Pa/Wilkinsburg) each added ten points.

The Tomcats were outrebounded 32-43, and finished a mere 4 of 16 from the free throw line.

The women return to action Sunday, Nov. 29 for their final game of the Marietta Turkey Shootout.
