GREENVILLE, Pa. (Nov. 5, 2009) – Two members of the Thiel College women’s volleyball team have been named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District II squad it was announced Thursday afternoon. Junior Madison Chylik (Valley View, Ohio/Cuyahoga Heights) earned a spot on the first team, while her classmate Danielle Dwyer (Dalton, Ohio/Dalton) was named to the third team.
With her first team designation, Chylik will advance to the national ballot for ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America consideration.
“Madison and Danielle are leaders for us on and off the court,” said Thiel head coach Steve Brewer. “Their commitment to excellence both in the classroom and in the gym definitely mirror one another and this honor is an affirmation of that.”
Chylik is an elementary education major at Thiel, who totes an impressive 3.97 GPA. As the team’s starting setter, Chylik has compiled 887 assists (8.21 assist/set) this season in addition to 18 service aces and 354 digs.
Dwyer, a communication major, has earned a cumulative GPA of 3.90 at Thiel in addition to participating in the volleyball and softball programs. Currently a Libero, Dwyer racked up 362 of her 716 career digs this season. She also led Thiel with 34 service aces.
Thiel (22-10) will continue its season on Friday in the semifinal round of the Presidents’ Athletic Conference championship tournament. Chylik and Dwyer were the only PAC women’s volleyball student-athletes selected for the recognition this year.
The District II College Division consists of all non-NCAA Division I colleges and universities in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. To be nominated for the program, a student-athlete must be at least a sophomore with a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade-point average and be a starter or significant reserve. Honorees are selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
