Thiel's Brown earns All-America status

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Thiel College freshman 133-pounder Corey Brown earned All-America status Friday with a, 9-7, overtime win over Tony Lawler of Heidelberg in the consolation bracket of the NCAA Division III Championships hosted by Coe College.
Brown and sophomore 125-pounder Robbie Miller went a collective 2-3 in the first day of the tournament.
Brown will survive to see another day at the event after going 2-1 on day one. The freshman 133-pounder upset Nichalos Cucciniello of Johnson and Wales, 9-3, in the first round to advance to the quarterfinals. Second-seeded Brandon Ball of the host Coe Kohawks dropped Brown to the consolation bracket via a pin in 5:57.
Miller lost his first match of the tournament to the fifth seed, Seth Ecker of Ithaca College, 5-4. He was eliminated in the in the first round of the consolation bracket by Lloyd McKinney of Wisconsin – LaCrosse after he was forced to take a technical default due to injury.
