Three named to ABCA All-Mideast Squad

ALLIANCE, Ohio (May 19, 2009) – Three Thiel College players have been named to the 2009 All-Mideast Region Baseball Team by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA).  Senior OF Eric Boylan (McKees Rocks/Sto Rox) (McKees Rocks, Pa./Sto-Rox) and junior 1B Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) have earned spots on the second team, while senior LHP Josh Tedesco (Campbell, Ohio/Ursuline) (Campbell, Ohio / Ursuline) landed a berth on the third team.
This is the second year in a row that Boylan and Tedesco have been named to the team, while Scarpitti earns his first all-region honor. All three were named to the All-Presidents' Athletic Conference first team earlier in the year.
Boylan, a first team selection a year ago, closed out his stellar career by breaking or tying at least five Thiel career records including those for hits (221), runs scored (140), RBIs (148), doubles (53), and total bases (360). The leftfielder batted .404 last season, while connecting for 59 hits including seven homers. His 34 runs batted in and .658 slugging percentage ranked second on the team.
Scarpitti started 44 games for the Tomcats at first last season, while batting .371 on the year. His 10 in 2009 homeruns rank as the fifth-most in program history. The junior lead the league in doubles with 22. He also ranked in the top 10 among PAC teams in slugging percentage (.683), runs scored (52), and RBIs (50).
Tedesco carved out his place in the record books this season by becoming the winningest pitcher in Thiel history and tossing the final nine of his program-best 23 victories. An all-region first-team selection in 2008, the left-hander registered an ERA of 4.26 while pitching four complete games. He also struck out over five batters for every nine innings pitched, while holding opponents to a .254 BAA.
