EDINBORO, Pa. (Jan. 30, 2010) - The Thiel College men's and women's indoor track and field team competed in the Al Hall Freedom Games at Edinboro University on Saturday, earning five top three finishes.
Leading the way for the Tomcats was senior All-America athlete, Alex Eaton (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.), whose first place finish in the 400-meter dash, (48.96) made him Thiel's first provisional qualifier for nationals of the young season. The Erie, Pa. native was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team along with Ethan Rowe (Fairmont City, Pa./Redbank Valley), Nick Youngblood (Hadley, Pa./Greenville), and Derek Workman (Valencia, Pa./Mars) that earned first place with a time of 3:24.09.
Kyfer Rumburd (Warren, Pa./Warren) rounded out the top finishers for the men, with a first place heave of 13.31-meters in the shot put.
For the women, senior athlete, Latoya Locke (Farrell, Pa./Farrell), paced the Tomcats with a first place and personal best time of 9.71 in the 60-meter high hurdles.
Rookie rocket, Brittany Brown (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial), set school records for the pentathlon, in both the 60-meter dash (9.34) and in overall score (2914. Brown now owns four indoor track and field records.
The men and women return to action Saturday, Feb. 6, when they compete at the Jim Wuske Invitational in Alliance, Ohio.
