Alliance, Ohio (February 21, 2010) -- Latoya Locke (Farrell, Pa./Farrell) led the way for the Thiel College men's and women's track and field teams on Saturday, with two victories and a provisional qualifying time. Overall, the Tomcats had five top-three finishers at the Mount Union Open.
Locke gained her first victory of the day in the 55-meter hurdles, with a blistering time of 8.82 and captured her second first place finish in the triple jump with a season best leap of 11.39-meters. The Farrell, Pa. native is the third Tomcat to provisionally qualify for the Indoor National Championships this season.
Her jump of 11.39-meters currently ranks 12th in the nation.
Joy Metzler (Industry, Pa./Western Beaver) and Brittany Brown (Pelham, N.Y./Pelham Memorial) also put up strong showings on Saturday, with third place finishes in the high jump (1.55-meters) and shot put (11.09-meters), respectively.
On the men's side, Ethan Rowe (Fairmont City, Pa./Redbank Valley) continued his steady improvement in the 400-meter dash, eclipsing his personal best in the event for the third time this season. The all-America runner's time of 50.28 took first place and is a mere .43 off a provisionally qualifying time.
Richard Peterson (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) took sixth in the 3000-meter run with a time of 9:15.97.
