VERO BEACH, Fla. (Feb. 27, 2010) – The Thiel College baseball team dropped its 2010 opener to St. John Fisher, 20-7, Saturday afternoon at field two of the Dodgertown baseball complex.
The Cardinals outscored the Tomcats, 12-2 over the game's first six innings, before Thiel notched its first multi-run frame of the day in the seventh.
Centerfielder
Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) reached base on a walk and one batter later freshman DH
Eric King (Butler, Pa./Butler) drove in the Tomcats third run of the game with a double to left center.
Two batters later King came around to score on as
Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep.) was retired on an unassisted play by the Cardinals' first baseman.
St. John Fisher answered back with seven runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Ryan Dixon (Pittsburgh, Pa./Upper St. Clair),
Jarod Nanna (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh) and Johnson scored a trio of unearned runs in the next half inning to close out the Thiel side of the scorebook.
Phil Double (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley) led the Tomcats with three hits in five at bats with an RBI. Johnson scored a team-high three runs, while King came around to score twice.

Dave Diyorio (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) took the loss.
Thiel returns to action on Sunday when they play Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology at 11:30 a.m. at Dodgertown.
