'Cat Softball Picks Up First Win in Florida

Clermont, Fla. (March 3, 2010) -- The Thiel College Softball team split their games on Wednesday, losing to the University of Michigan Dearborn, 5-13, and picking up their first win of the season, 8-7, over Oneonta University.
The Tomcat women's once dormant bats began to come to life in their game one loss to Michigan Dearborn. Melissa Rankin (Scenery Hill, PA/Bentworth) and Ashley McLimans (Orchard Park, NY/Hamburg) led the way with a two hits apiece, for a Thiel squad that notched 10 hits total.
The ‘Cats carried their game one momentum over to game two, tallying 10 total hits in their game two victory over Oneonta.
Offensively, Elise Moore (Apollo, PA/Kiski) led the way for the Tomcats finishing 2-for-4 at the dish with four RBIs, while Amber Cree (Conneaut Lake, PA/Conneaut Lake) and Ashley Rable (Warren, Ohio/Champion) finished the contest with two hits and two RBIs each. Rankin finished the game with a team-high three hits.
The winning pitcher for Thiel was sophomore right hander, Kristen Moreland (Dover, OH/Dover), who struck out three batters while scattering six hits.
The women of Thiel College softball return to action Thursday, March 4 for a 1:30 p.m. match up against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and a 3:30 p.m. contest against Johnson and Wales University.
