WEXFORD, Pa. (May 18, 2010) – Two Thiel College baseball standouts have been named to All-Presidents' Athletic Conference teams, it was announced on Tuesday. Junior centerfielder Luke Johnson (Rochester, Pa./Rochester) earned a spot on the first team and senior first baseman Justin Scarpitti (Erie, Pa./Cathedral Prep) secured second-team recognition.
Johnson executed his roles as a leadoff man and outfielder to near perfection in 2010, culminating with a program record-tying 6-for-6 day from the plate in Thiel's season-ending win against Saint Vincent. He led the Tomcats with a .432 batting average while racking up 70 hits – 11 of which went for extra bases.
Defensively Johnson was equally effective, committing only one error in 87 attempts for a fielding percentage of .990.
Scarpitti earned his second-consecutive All-PAC nod after a senior season during which he batted .304, while belting four homer runs and driving in a team-leading 35 runs.
During his Thiel career, Scarpitti staked claim to many of the program's career records including those for career at bats (599), runs scored (153), runs batted in (166), walks drawn (80) and putouts (1,228).
