GREENVILLE, Pa. (July 21) – The Thiel College women's volleyball team was a recipient of the 2009-2010 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

The AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams at the high school and college level that are successful in the classroom. Nominees include high school or college teams that have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.30 (on a 4.00 scale) or 4.10 (on a 5.00 scale) during the full academic year (both semesters or all quarters), and include all varsity athletes who competed in volleyball with the institution for any portion of the academic year.

"This award is a testament to the focus and determination of each and every one of these student-athletes, both on and off the court. They have once again made their families, their coaches and their College very proud of them," said fifth-year Tomcat head coach Steve Brewer.

Brewer and the Tomcats finished the 2009 season with an overall record of 23-11 and a second-place finish in the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The 2010 Tomcats will begin their season on September 1 at the Baldwin-Wallace College Quad as they take on Walsh University at 5 p.m.
