Thiel wrestling coach
Craig Thurber and an accomplished staff helped make the Seventh Annual Thiel College Wrestling Camp a success, completing the four-day instructional camp Thursday.
Nineteen wrestlers in grades one through six attended this year's camp, which was held at Rissell-Beeghly Gymnasia.
In addition to Thurber, who is set to begin his eighth year as head coach of the Tomcats, the camp staff included
Jeff Linn, entering his ninth year as an assistant coach at Thiel. Other staff members included two-time All-American and current Tomcat wrestler
Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds), returning Presidents' Athletic Conference champion
Alec Miller (Transfer, Pa./Grove City) and Mike Menold, a national qualifier for the 'Cats in 1994.
Of the 19 junior wrestlers, 10 had attended the camp in previous years while nine were making their first appearance. The camp combined both physical and mental training as well as activities off the mat to keep it fun.
"Anytime we can get youth wrestlers learning about the sport and having fun is a positive for both us and the wrestlers," Thurber said. "Having some of our alumni back to work the camp and some of our current wrestlers helping is a great thing."
