GREENVILLE, Pa. — Playing for the second consecutive night to open the season, Thiel's men's soccer team fell to Point Park 5-1 Thursday at Alumni Stadium.
The Tomcats had their season off to a fast start with a 3-0 win over Mount Aloysius on Wednesday, but never found that same energy in the loss to Point Park. The Pioneers jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first half and added three more in the second half to improve to 2-0 this season.
Manuel Schneckenreither and Matt Annecchiarico scored just over a minute apart 20 minutes into the first half to give the Pioneers the early momentum. Miguel Alvarez assisted on the first goal while Francis Tabi had an assist on the second goal.
Schneckenreither and Tabi would continue to factor in the scoring as the game progressed. Schneckenreither scored on an assist from Tabi in the 68th minute and Tabi scored on a penalty kick in the 69th minute to put the Pioneers up 4-0.
Rory Duncan (Chardon, Ohio, Chardon), who had two assists on Wednesday, put the Tomcats on the board midway through the second half, scoring on an assist from
Ryan Doherty (Aurora, Ohio, Aurora).
Tabi would finish with two goals and two assists as he closed out the scoring for both teams with a goal in the 82nd minute. Alvarez notched his second assist on the goal.
Thiel (1-1) will play its first game away from Alumni Stadium this season when it travels to Defiance, Ohio on Saturday to play Greenville College on a neutral field. The Tomcats will take on Defiance College the following day.
