Men's Cross County Teams Finishes 20th at Mideast Regional Meet

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Tomcat men's cross country team competed today at the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Championships, hosted by DeSales University. Thiel placed 20th out of the 47 teams that competed with 568 overall points.

Richard Peterson (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) again paced the Tomcat squad, finishing 29th with a time of 26:29.

Steve Morgan (Raritan, N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan Regional) came in 72nd place with a time of 27:26 and Regis Wagner (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) came in crossed 113th with a time of 28:13.

Peterson was awarded with All-Region honors, awarded to runners who placed in the top 35.

Morgan was the fifth freshman to cross the finish line, earning him All-Freshman Honors. The Mideast Region is the only Division III region that recognizes the top seven freshmen with an award.

“As coaches, we are proud of the way or teams competed today. It was a tough course with a few small hills that were meant to break the runner's rhythm,” said head coach Steve Carr.

The 20th place team finish marks the second highest-ever regional finish.

“Peterson, DuLaney and Wagner provided great leadership this year, and with Morgan earning All-region Freshman honors and the rest of the freshmen improving under coach Christiansen's tutelage, Thiel's cross country teams will be tough to beat in the next few years."
