ITHACA, N.Y. –
Corey Brown (Greenville, Pa./Reynolds) started his senior season off with a bang, racking up a 4-0 record while earning an individual title at 133 pounds Saturday as the Tomcat wrestlers posted a third-place finish at the 28th annual Ithaca College Invitational.

Elijah Flasher (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) wrestled to a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds. He fell in the championship quarterfinals to Springfield College's Nicholas Camera 3-2, and after falling 5-0 to Ithaca's Keith Dickey in the consolation semifinals, he lost to Camera in the fifth-place match 8-5.
Shayduan Velez-Lara (Belcamp, Md./Aberdeen) dropped a 9-1 major decision to Ithaca's Dominck Giacolone in the championship semifinals and fell to Springfield's Tom Casper 15-8 in the fifth-place match.
"This was a fantastic start to the season, especially for our freshmen. They wrestled with such confidence and intensity; it was really fun to watch. This team showed us a lot this weekend. With three top 25 teams here and for us to be in second after Friday's session and finish in a solid third place was a real confidence boost for everyone. We still have a lot of work to do, but it feels good to have such a solid start," said Thurber.
The Tomcats will return to the mat on Saturday, Nov. 12 when they travel to Washington, Pa. for the Washington & Jefferson College Open. Matches are set to get underway at 9 a.m.
