Eleven Tomcats named to PAC All-Conference teams

GREENVILLE, Pa. – Eleven Thiel Tomcat football players were named to PAC All-Conference teams Monday, led by senior defensive end Tim Taylor (Girard, Pa./Erie Cathedral Prep), who was named to the All-PAC First Team Defense for the second straight season.
 
Taylor finished his collegiate career as Thiel's all-time career leader in sacks (34.5) and tackles for loss (66.5). He also set a new single-season record for sacks (13.5) this season, surpassing Jason Diley's record (12) that stood since 1995. Taylor finished the 2012 season tied for fourth in all of Division III with an average of 1.35 sacks per game and tied for sixth with 2.2 tackles for loss per game.
 
Sophomore center Jason Crystol (Monroeville, Pa./Gateway) earned the first collegiate all-conference selection of his career Monday when he was named to the All-PAC Second Team Offense.
 
Nine Tomcats were tapped as All-PAC Honorable Mention selections. On offense, senior offensive lineman Jordan Fortuna (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) and junior tight end Berend Grube (Venetia, Pa./Peters Twp.) were honored.
 
Grube led Thiel in receptions (37) and receiving yards (325). He also caught two touchdown passes.
 
On defense, senior defensive lineman Kris Tursky (Linesville, Pa./Linesville Conneaut Summit) and sophomore defensive end Cody McClelland (Sarver, Pa./Freeport) earned honorable mention selections. All three of Thiel's starting linebackers were also honorable mention picks – senior Ethan Ludwig (East Liverpool, Ohio/East Liverpool) and sophomores Jack Sindlinger (Linesville, Pa./Linesville) and Tom Thorpe (Charleroi, Pa./Charleroi).
 
Tursky was third on the team this season in tackles for loss (8.5) and eight on the team in tackles (28). He also recorded 2.5 sacks. McClelland racked up the second most sacks on the team (6) and was fourth in tackles for loss (7). He also forced two fumbles during his sophomore campaign.
 
Ludwig led the Tomcats with 99 tackles this season. He finished second on the team in tackles for loss (11.5). Ludwig also contributed 2.5 sacks and picked off one pass, which he returned 31 yards for a touchdown. Sindlinger was Thiel's second-leading tackler (75). He also notched six tackles for loss, two sacks and one interception. Thorpe finished third on the team with 69 tackles. Six of Thorpe's tackles were for a loss of yards.
 
Defensive backs Martae and Marshaun Hainesworth (Warren, Ohio/Warren JFK) were also named honorable mention picks.
 
Senior Marshaun Hainesworth (Warren, Ohio/Warren JFK) tied for the most pass break ups on the team (7) and was fifth on the team in tackles (45). Martae Hainesworth (Warren, Ohio/Warren JFK) was sixth on the team in tackles (42) and had five pass break ups. He also added two tackles for loss, a sack and an interception during his sophomore season.
 
Thiel's 11 All-PAC selections this season are the most since the 2007 team garnered 14 picks.
