GREENVILLE, Pa. — The Thiel Tomcat wrestling team won five of the ten matches against NCAA DII Seton Hill University but came up short losing 17-15 to the Griffins at Beeghly Gymnasium.

Sean Byham (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown), Matt Butler (Garrettsville, Ohio/Berkshire), Jake Lowry, Jake Trillow (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell) and Will Ringer (Fredonia, Pa./Reynolds) all won their bouts for the Tomcats in a losing effort, with three of those wins coming in overtime.

Byham was the first to post a win for Thiel at 157lb., defeating Adam Moranduzzo by decision, 3-0. The match was tied through two periods, with Byham scoring back points in the third to get the win and give three points to the home team.

Butler was up next at 165lb., defeating Randall Wagner in overtime with the win coming by decision, 3-1. Butler was able to get a takedown in the sudden-win overtime period to secure the second-consecutive victory for the Tomcats.

Jerrold Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) gave DII national qualifier Zach Benzio all he could handle, taking him to overtime. Unfortunately Roosa ran out of gas after controlling most of the match, falling by decision, 9-8.

Jake Lowry improved to 6-0 on the season with a gutsy win in overtime over 2011 JUCO All-American Dylan Bushby. Lowry, who needed a full minute of injury time early in the first period, picked himself off the mat and finished out the match. Even after Bushby scored late in the third to tie the score 8-8, Lowry continued on, eventually receiving a point for an illegal hold and went on to win, 9-8.

Trillow won decisively over Edwin Callander at 197lb., winning by decision, 10-5. Heavyweight Will Ringer (Fredonia, Pa./Reynolds) followed that up with a win in overtime over Eric Minerd, 3-1. The win improves Ringer to 5-2 on the season.


Thiel will travel to Alliance, Ohio, to take on Mount Union College on Saturday, November 17. The first match starts at 9 a.m.
