GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College baseball team has announced its 40-game schedule for the upcoming spring season. The Tomcats went 18-22 in 2012, the 14th season at the helm for head coach Joe
Schaly.
2013 Thiel College Tomcats Baseball Schedule
The Tomcats will begin the season by playing their first eight games in seven days, beginning with a March 3 twin bill against Finlandia College at the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Fla. The Tomcats will take on Heidelberg College, Alvernia University, Wilmington College, Neumann University, and Dominican College on subsequent dates from March 4-9.
The Tomcats will return stateside a week later on March 16 with a doubleheader at Hiram College. March 19 will mark opening day at Tomcat Park with a nine-inning game against LaRoche College before Presidents' Athletic Conference action begins with a three-game series at Thomas More College on March 23-24. The Tomcats then play three consecutive non-conference games, with a single nine-inning game at Allegheny College on March 27, and return home on March 30 for a doubleheader against Case Western Reserve.
Another inter-conference twin bill brings Thiel to West Virginia to challenge the Bethany Bison on April 2, followed by a three-game, road/home set with Geneva College on April 5-6. After that, a non-conference game at Tomcat Park against Penn State Behrend on April 8 comes next, with another single game on April 10 against PAC foe Bethany at Tomcat Park.
Thiel will begin a 12-game, 16-day stretch on April 12-13 with a three-game road/home set against the Washington and Jefferson College Presidents, followed by a home game against non-conference foe Mount Union College the following day on April 14. Thiel will then welcome the Waynesburg University Yellow Jackets to Tomcat Park for a doubleheader on April 16. The two teams will hook back up for a nine-inning, single game on April 24 at Waynesburg, but before that the Tomcats will play a three-game, road/home set against Westminster College on April 20-21.
Thiel will wrap up its season with two three-game, road/home sets, with the first against Mercer County rival Grove City College on April 26-27. After that the Tomcats will close out the 2013 regular season with a three-game series against Saint Vincent on May 3-4.
The Presidents' Athletic Conference Tournament begins on May 9. The top four seeds from the conference make the double elimination tournament, with the tournament being hosted by the highest seed.
