Thiel men’s tennis ups win streak to four with pair of wins over weekend

CRESTVIEW HILLS, Ky. – The Thiel men's tennis team picked up a pair of victories over the weekend, defeating Wilmington 8-1 Saturday and Presidents' Athletic Conference foe Thomas More 7-2 on Sunday.

The Tomcats started their road trip with a match in Dayton, Ohio against Wilmington. Richard Parks (Penn Hills, Pa./Penn Hills) and Collin McAndrew (Dayton, Ohio/General McLane) earned a win in the top spot with an 8-5 victory, while Shun Kogai (Tokyo, Japan/) and Shinjiro Todaka (Tokyo, Japan/Hyuga-gakuin ) recorded a win in the second position at 8-3.

In singles, Thiel dominated with straight set wins in four of the five positions in the lineup to seal the victory. Parks took home a win in the top spot at 6-1, 6-2 and McAndrew also won in three sets at 6-2, 6-7, 11-9. Logan Sturgeon had to work for his win as he won the first set, 6-1, and then had a close one in the second, but came out on top at 7-5. Kogai won his match 6-2, 6-4 at number four singles and Todaka closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-0 win in the fifth spot.

Thiel made it four wins in a row and improved to 12-5 overall, 3-2 PAC with a 7-2 win over Thomas More Sunday.
 
The Tomcats opened the match by taking two of three doubles pairings, as the team of Parks and McAndrew improved to 12-5 at number one singles with an 8-6 win. After Thomas More tied the match 1-1 with a win at number two doubles, Logan Sturgeon and Trevor Fancher won their sixth match of the season with an 8-3 win at number three doubles.
 
Thiel won five of six singles matches with Parks' 11th win at number one singles sealing the victory.

The Tomcats return to action Monday, when they travel to Bethany, W.Va. to take on the Bison at 4 p.m.
