New Era of Thiel Men’s Soccer begins with community outreach

GREENVILLE, Pa. – A new era of Thiel College men's soccer has been ushered in by first-year head coach Chris Limle, one with an emphasis on giving back to the community.

“We have a style of play in soccer, a passing style, which requires lending the ball, teamwork and for an individual to constantly move to open space for his teammate,” said Coach Limle. “We want to integrate the teamwork aspect of soccer into the culture of Thiel men's soccer.”

On April 11, the men's soccer program put on a small clinic and training session in conjunction with the Greenville Soccer Association. Over 75 area youths came to watch the men's team train, as all 22 Tomcats took time after their training session to teach skills and share their vast knowledge of the game to those who attended.

Limle followed that up on May 16th, by taking the afternoon to talk with students at Pymatuning Valley Primary School as part of their career day. Limle talked with kids ranging from kindergarten to fourth grade about how problem solving in the classroom reflects problem solving in the game by correlating school to sports and showing how math specifically is such a strong component to the game of soccer.

The Tomcats take the field for the first time under the leadership of Limle on August 31, when they take on Juniata College at Alumni Stadium. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
