GREENVILLE, Pa. – The Thiel College wrestling team won six of 10 matches Friday, two with extra points, en route to a 22-14 Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC) victory over the Waynesburg Yellow Jackets at Beeghly Gymnasium.
The win improved Thiel's overall record to 12-6 and 2-0 in the PAC. The Tomcats defeated Washington & Jefferson 16-15 earlier this week.
Vince Vahaly (Bentleyville, Pa./Bentworth) put the Tomcats up 2-0 after defeating Gordan Bieber 2-1 at 125 pounds. Filippo Crivelli tied up the score 3-3 for the Yellow Jackets with a decision win at 133 pounds.
The 141-pound match was pivotal in Thiel's win.
Nick Sutton (Butler, Pa./Butler) picked up the win, earning precious bonus points when he pinned D.J. Grindle in 2:05.
Sean Byham (Saegertown, Pa./Saegertown) (1587),
Marco Crivelli (Clinton, Pa./Hopewell) (184) and
Jerrold Roosa (Randolph, N.Y./Randolph Central) (197) also won by decision for the Tomcats Friday while
Jordan Powell (Hadley, Pa./Commodore Perry) (174) earned extra points with a major decision.
