Men's Cross Country

Cross Country Teams Open Season at Geneva Tri-Meet; Men Finish Second, Women Third

BEAVER FALLS, Pa. – The Thiel College cross country program got its 2010 season underway Wednesday evening at the Geneva College Tri-Meet against host Geneva and Waynesburg University. At the event held at Brush Creek Park in Beaver Falls the men's team finished in second place with 41 team points while the women ended in third with 69 team points. Junior Richard Peterson (Cochranton, Pa./Meadville) (Meadville, Pa./Meadville) highlighted the event for the Tomcats with his first-place finish (17:23).

Geneva earned the tri-meet win on the women's side with a total of 29 points while Waynesburg finished second with 31 and Thiel third with 69. Waynesburg freshman Bre Paul paced the women's event with a time of 21:40. Freshman Emily Petrak (Butler, Pa./Butler) (Butler, Pa./Butler) led the way for the Tomcats, finishing eighth with at time of 23:53. Fellow freshman Valerie White (Pittsburgh, Pa./Langley) (Pittsburgh, Pa./Langley) earned a 10th-place finish (25:26) while senior Sarah McAfee (Butler, Pa./Butler) (Butler, Pa./Butler) finished 14th with at time of 25:53.

The Geneva men registered the tri-meet win with 28 points, followed by Thiel in second (41 pts.) and Waynesburg (60).

With Peterson pacing the men's squad the Tomcats finished with three top five performers. Sophomore Regis Wagner (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) posted a third-place finish (17:51) while junior Brendan DuLaney (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) crossed in fifth place with a time of 18:09.

The cross country squads return to action on Saturday, September 11 at the Waynesburg University Invitational, which is being held at the Greene County Airport in Waynesburg.
